Wed.'s Work: Moving a "Dangerous Breed"
Most dogs that travel domestically and internationally have agreeable dispositions. Handlers, relocation specialists, and airline personnel are all comfortable in the presence of most travelling dogs. However, the rare occurence of a problematic dog can result in catastrophe if not properly addressed. For instance, what if a large breed dog that is particularly aggressive chews through its hard plastic crate and damages vital plane components midflight? It’s easy to brush off such concerns as impossible, but some dogs do indeed possess the strength necessary to destroy their hard plastic travel crates. This becomes a possibility when a dog with serious temperament problems is confined to their travel crate for an extended period of time.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it This rare cause for concern has prompted wide sweeping breed bans and breed-specific regulations by most major airlines. Due to the constant bombardment of negative media coverage (most of it biased to begin with), the general public has the misperception of certain breeds being more dangerous than others. Therefore, the propensity for (and actual occurrence of) dog escape due to uncontrollable aggression and crate chewing combined with the negative perception of certain breeds has led to the IATA Container Requirement #82 (CR82) for “dangerous dog breeds.”
“Dangerous dog breeds” cited by airlines are usually the following breeds: American Pit Bull Terriers (APBTs), American Bullies, American Staffordshire Terriers, Cane Corsos, Dogo Argentinos, Presa Canarios, Fila Brasileiros, and Japanese Tosas. Please consult a pet relocation specialist about your specific breed’s travel crate needs even if the breed name does not appear above, as we’ve noted that different airlines have different breed-specific regulations. If you own a dog that fulfills the need for an IATA CR82 travel crate as mandated by your chosen airline, then you have one of two options. Your “dangerous dog breed” is able to fly in a custom built wooden crate that contains an additional metal wire crate inside or it can travel in a solid metal container.
At Premier Pet Relocation, we recognize that some dogs need special care due to aggressive behavior from a traumatic past. Additionally, we understand that people across the world own many of the breeds considered to be dangerous, yet their dogs have absolutely no temperament issues. In either case, Premier Pet Relocation has extensive experience with both boarding and facilitating the transportation of “dangerous dog breeds.” We guarantee that we can provide our clients with the proper travel container and level of care that they would expect from professional pet relocation specialists. We are also well aware of changing breed restrictions and breed bans that are specific to certain countries. At Premier Pet Relocation, we love and respect all breeds of dog, regardless of public misperception.
