Happy National Dog Day!!!
Today is the day to give your dog or dogs a big hug, just like you do everyday. However, the hug your dog receives today is given in the spirit of National Dog Day, a holiday created to officially recognize and appreciate our canine companions!
Established in 2004 by author Colleen Paige, National Dog Day (aka International Dog Day or National Dog Appreciation Day) aims to bring attention to both the contributions dogs give to our society as well as the many problems that dogs still face in our country and around the world. Billed as the "the K-9 4th of July," owners are encouraged to spend the whole day with their four legged friends for all that they do for us.
Don't have a dog? That's ok! There are still many ways to participate in National Dog Day in order to make a difference. Dog enthusiassts are encouraged to visit the SPCA or their local shelter to drop off blankets, dog food, or even to consider adopting a dog to take care of on their own.
Please take a minute to visit National Dog Day in order to read-up on 50 ways to celebrate the holiday. We think #41 is especially important.
